Primary objective
Provide NT‑wide specialist practice leadership within Community Corrections to strengthen responses to domestic, family and sexual
violence and high‑risk offenders. Practice Leaders support frontline staff with timely, case‑specific guidance on complex matters, while
working with teams and partner agencies to enhance rehabilitation pathways, embed evidence‑based practice, and build workforce
capability, wellbeing and resilience.
Context statement
Community Corrections supervises offenders on community‑based orders across urban, regional and remote Northern Territory locations.
Practice Leaders are a small, regionally based cohort of social workers and psychologists who provide specialist clinical expertise in risk
management, complex case formulation, and workforce capability development.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Review, triage and assess referrals, undertaking risk assessment, case formulation and intervention planning, and preparing summary
reports to support evidence‑based offender management.
2. Deliver brief, targeted interventions in selected complex or high‑risk cases to address dynamic and offence‑related risks.
3. Champion and model DFSV-informed practice, supporting staff to implement effective supervision and intervention strategies.
4. Build workforce capability through supervision, reflective practice, case consultation, modelling and targeted training, in partnership
with regional management to strengthen practice and support staff wellbeing and resilience.
5. Contribute to practice governance and continuous improvement, including development and review of practice guidance, tools and
standards, and participation in audits, incident reviews and debriefing.
6. Work with Corrections staff and other agencies to model and embed effective practice, support coordinated responses, and
strengthen risk management.
7. Contribute to frontline service delivery in complex or high‑risk matters and during periods of operational need, including offender
supervision and report writing, as directed by the Senior Practice Leader or the Senior Practice Director.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualifications in psychology or social work with unconditional eligibility for registration or membership with the Australian
Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or the Australian Association of Social Workers.
2. Experience in domestic, family and sexual violence, including working with users of violence, and strong knowledge of DFV-informed
risk assessment and intervention.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Aboriginal peoples, including a strong commitment to cultural humility.
4. Ability to build and maintain effective internal and interagency relationships.
5. Knowledge of criminogenic frameworks and offender risk assessment and intervention approaches, or the willingness and capacity
to develop quickly.
6. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports for different settings and purposes.
7. Ability to work autonomously and provide guidance, mentoring, and supervision to support workforce capability development.
8. Experience managing complexity, including conflict, ethical decision-making, and competing demands.
9. Experience working with involuntary clients or in a statutory setting, with demonstrated understanding of relevant legislative and
practice frameworks.
