We have a great opportunity for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our high performing Engineering team based in our state of the art office in Osborne Park.
About the role
The Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the Mechanical Engineering team to provide engineering expertise in the design, equipment selection, fabrication, installation, assembly and day-to-day management of the projects.
The role includes the stewardship and development of technical standards, specification and relevant systems to uphold and technical integrity across delivery
In this position you’ll:
- Review and plan projects with the Engineering Manager to ensure technical aspects of each job are clear.
- Ensure Technical equipment selection in line with the Process Design Criteria.
- Be a focal point for the management of operating site change management.
- Undertake Completion / Review of Process Flow Diagrams and Piping & Instrument diagrams.
- Prepare project design documentation.
- Undertake facilitate safety in design reviews/workshops ensuring cross discipline participation and follow up through close out.
- Be a focal point for all technical based queries from the client or associated sub suppliers.
- Liaise with both in-house and external designers and detailers as required for the successful completion of each project.
- Assist with purchasing of materials for projects by assessing quantities and completing Purchase Orders.
- Ensure further development of upkeep and revision to relevant discipline standard drawings. specifications, procedures and various deliverable templates.
Necessary skills and qualifications:
- Tertiary Qualifications in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10+ years’ experience Industry Experience.
- 5+ years in a Senior Engineering role.
- Mining related industry experience working on large construction projects from Design to Commissioning.
- Prior experience in modelling and drafting.
- Experience with materials handling is essential, and you can accurately calculate all crushing, screening and conveying components based on design criteria.
- Experience with pumps and piping is essential to accurately size and select suitable pumps and pipe sizing based on mass balance and other process design criteria.
- Bulk materials storage and handling facilities design include gravity reclaim stockpiles, mass & funnel flow ore bins and feeders.
- Experience in using Helix or Sidewinder conveyor design software.
- Strong level of computer literacy (operating systems, Office products, engineering tools).
- Skilled with Fluid Flow 3 hydraulic simulation software, including homogenous, heterogenous and non-Newtonian fluids.
- Development and interpretation of material handling test work reports by TUNRA or Jenike & Johanson.
- Ability to conduct cost/time analysis of vendor equipment and supply options.
- Ability to take ownership of work from initiation to execution.
