We are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer (RPEQ‑registered) to join our team at the Meandu Mine near Kingaroy. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will lead geotechnical support for mining operations, ensuring stability, compliance, and continuous improvement across the site. This senior role is pivotal in overseeing the safe and efficient design, monitoring, and management of pit slopes, dumps, and associated geotechnical structures.
This position is offered as a DIDO or residential role on a 9‑day fortnight roster, with accommodation provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead geotechnical assessments of pit walls, highwalls, and dump stability
- Oversee geotechnical inspections, mapping programs, and hazard identification processes
- Provide senior‑level design input for slopes, dumps, haul roads, and ground control strategies
- Analyse and interpret geotechnical data, including slope monitoring systems and piezometers
- Develop, review, and maintain Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs)
- Provide geotechnical guidance to drill and blast design and execution
- Prepare high‑quality technical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations for operational teams
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with operations, planning, and external consultants
Capability Requirements
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Mining Engineering; RPEQ registration essential
- Extensive experience in open‑cut mining, preferably coal
- Strong technical capability in slope stability, ground control, and geotechnical risk management
- Proficiency with geotechnical software such as Rocscience (Slide, Phase2), Leapfrog, and related tools
- Demonstrated ability to interpret monitoring data and provide practical, operationally‑focused recommendations
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, safety‑driven approach
