About the role:
Reporting to the Group Manager – Safety, Assurance and Environment, The HSE Business Partner will support the Energy Services Division by providing visible and proactive HSE leadership across MPK operations by leading by example, coaching and supporting managers, supervisors and operational teams to effectively implement health, safety, environment and quality management systems. The role is responsible for driving a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with legislative and corporate requirements, and embedding risk-based decision-making across the business.
Working closely with the Business Unit Leaders and operational personnel, the position provides strategic and functional leadership to ensure HSE strategies, systems and initiatives are effectively executed and achieve their intended outcomes. This includes monitoring overall HSE performance, promoting consultation and workforce engagement, supporting incident prevention and investigation, facilitating continuous improvement, and ensuring that health, safety and environmental risks are identified, assessed and controlled.
The role demonstrates visible leadership through regular engagement with frontline teams, participation in risk management activities, audits, inspections and training programs, while fostering accountability and ownership of HSE responsibilities at all levels of the organisation. Through coaching, mentoring and active support, the position enables leaders to fulfil their HSE obligations and contributes to the delivery of safe, sustainable and high-performing operational outcomes across MPK.
Key responsibilities include, but not limited to
Build strong working relationships with Business Stream Leadership Teams, Operational Leaders and frontline personnel to strengthen HSE culture and performance.
Promote workforce participation and consultation through formal and informal engagement processes.
Deliver clear and influential HSE communications, safety alerts, learnings and presentations that drive awareness, accountability and behavioural improvement.
Support the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of MPK's HSE Management Systems to ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory and corporate requirements.
Assist Business Unit Leaders, Operational Leaders to ensure Business Units and contract-specific HSE Management Plans meet operational and risk management requirements.
Schedule, coordinate and conduct HSE audits, inspections, reviews and assurance activities in accordance with internal and external requirements.
Track injury management processes to ensure documents and files notes are retained as per MPK procedural requirements.
Support operational teams in maintaining risk registers and ensuring HSE-related business risks are regularly reviewed and accurately reflect current risk profiles.
Lead and actively participate in risk management processes including HAZID, CRAW, risk workshops and critical risk reviews.
Provide leadership, guidance and support to ensure investigations identify root causes, corrective actions and opportunities for organisational learning.
Assist in the development, implementation and review of business induction processes.
Deliver and coordinate HSE training, awareness programs and leadership development initiatives.
Support the Group Manager – Safety, Assurance and Environment and Business Unit Leadership Teams in the delivery of HSE strategic objectives, initiatives and improvement programs.
Championing a proactive HSE culture that drives visible leadership, accountability, continuous improvement and operational excellence across MPK operations.
Skills and Experiences:
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE
ICAM
Lead Auditor OHS Management Systems
Workplace First Aid / CPR
Current State/Territory Driver’s License – Class C
- Certification in a recognized Drug and Alcohol testing program
- 5 – 10 years experience in HSE within oil and gas, environments
- Minimum 5 years experience implementation systems and risk management programs
- Minimum 5 years in a professional safety capacity with demonstrated experience in a leadership role or role of significant influence during a period of organisational change/transformation
Extensive knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS), Petroleum and Gas (P&G), environmental management principles, systems and practices within high-risk operational environments.
Strong conflict resolution, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with frontline employees, operational leaders, executive stakeholders, clients and regulators.
Strong consultation and facilitation skills, including experience leading workshops, risk reviews, investigations, training sessions and committee meetings.
