About the role:
As a journalist based in Geraldton, you'll play a key role in delivering impactful local news and connecting with the community through compelling storytelling.
Cover a diverse range of stories including breaking news, local politics, sport, community issues, courts, and major regional events.
Report for the Geraldton Guardian (published Tuesdays and Fridays) and the Midwest Times (published Wednesdays).
Create engaging content for Seven West Media's digital and social media platforms.
Develop strong relationships with local stakeholders, community groups, and key contacts across the region.
Research, investigate, and uncover stories that resonate with local audiences.
Work in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities.
About you:
We're looking for someone who is curious, proactive and passionate about telling stories that matter.
Demonstrated experience in journalism, reporting, communications, media, or a related field, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications.
Strong interviewing, communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
A strong news sense with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
A genuine passion for local journalism and community storytelling.
An interest in hard news including crime, courts and politics (desirable).
Experience with, or a willingness to develop skills in, digital publishing and social media promotion.
A current and valid driver's licence.
