The Opportunity
As the Senior Tax Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring Thiess' global tax obligations are met while supporting the business on a range of complex tax matters. Working closely with finance teams, external advisors, and regional stakeholders, you will provide both compliance and advisory support across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and coordinate corporate income tax returns for Thiess Group entities, including overseas jurisdictions.
- Manage quarterly tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, reconciliations and tax reporting requirements.
- Review and oversee GST/VAT, withholding tax and corporate tax submissions across global operations.
- Maintain and update annual transfer pricing documentation.
- Prepare Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR), Local Files and International Dealings Schedules (IDS).
- Provide advice on international tax matters including tax treaties, withholding taxes, foreign tax offsets, thin capitalisation, Controlled Foreign Companies (CFC), and profit repatriation strategies.
- Monitor changes to global tax legislation and assess impacts to the Thiess Group, including OECD BEPS and Pillar Two developments.
- Support tax authority reviews, audits, disputes and information requests.
- Partner with Global Mobility, Payroll and Finance teams on expatriate taxation and mobility matters.
- Assist with new country establishment activities, including entity structuring and tax analysis.
- Develop and improve tax governance, compliance procedures and audit-ready documentation.
- Provide ongoing tax support and guidance to Regional Finance Managers and key business stakeholders.
About You
You are a qualified tax professional with strong Australian and international tax experience and a passion for delivering practical, commercial outcomes. With a proactive mindset and strong technical expertise, you can confidently navigate complex tax matters, build trusted stakeholder relationships, and provide high-quality advice across a global business.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Law or a related discipline.
- CA or CPA qualification.
- 7+ years' taxation experience, ideally within a Big 4, mid-tier accounting firm or large multinational organisation.
- Strong exposure to international tax and cross-border transactions.
- Experience managing corporate income tax compliance and tax reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong technical tax knowledge with exceptional legislative interpretation skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and attention-to-detail capabilities.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage a broad range of stakeholders.
