Forensicare
Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is Victoria’s specialist provider of forensic mental health services. We deliver recovery-focused programs that support consumers living with serious mental illness or problematic behaviours who are connected to, or at risk of contact with, the justice system, across a variety of settings including community-based services, inpatient units, and secure environments throughout Victoria.
Position Objective
The Staffing and Allocations Officer plays a key role in supporting the effective rostering and deployment of staff across Forensicare’s hospital and prison-based services. Reporting to Business Support Services and working within the rostering team, the role ensures that nursing resources are allocated efficiently
and in accordance with organisational policies, enabling the delivery of safe, high-quality, and recovery-oriented care. This includes managing planned and unplanned staffing shortfalls, liaising with internal staff and external agencies, and maintaining accurate records to support operational decision-making.
A key focus of the role is to ensure timely and appropriate staffing coverage across all shifts, contributing to a safe and therapeutic environment for consumers, staff, and visitors. The Staffing and Allocations Officer works collaboratively with clinical operations, unit and program managers and agency partners to ensure that the right skill mix and classification of staff are maintained. The role also supports compliance with registration requirements, contributes to reporting and data management, and plays an active part in the daily operations of the rostering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the daily rostering and allocation of staff across hospital and prison-based services, ensuring appropriate skill mix and coverage
- Respond to staffing shortfalls in a timely and effective manner, liaising with internal staff and approved agencies to fill vacancies
- Maintain up-to-date records of staff availability, including contact details for bank staff and agency personnel
- Monitor and support compliance with mandatory registration and induction requirements for all staff, including those working in prison settings
- Participate in daily team meetings and contribute to forward planning for staffing needs across all shifts
- Generate reports on staffing utilisation and agency use, supporting data-driven decision-making and workforce planning
Key selection criteria:
- Previous experience in a staffing or allocations role within a health or related sector
- Proficiency in rostering software and systems used in 24/7 operational environments
- High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Strong communication skills with a person-centred and respectful approach
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail in a busy and complex environment
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team
- Well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to make timely decisions
- Understanding of workforce compliance requirements, including registration and induction processes
