We have an exciting role for a Cyber Security Operations Manager to join our team in one our offices in either Melbourne, Perth or Sydney.
The Head of Security Operations is accountable for Vocus’ Cyber Defence capability across corporate, cloud, operational technology (OT) and critical infrastructure environments.
The role leads the operational security function, ensuring the organisation can rapidly detect, investigate, respond to and recover from cyber threats while continually improving operational resilience through security monitoring, threat intelligence, detection engineering, vulnerability management, offensive security and incident response.
As a senior technical leader, the Head of Security Operations provides strategic direction for Security Operations, ensuring comprehensive visibility across the technology estate and maintaining effective operational security capabilities against an evolving threat landscape.
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
Working closely with Technology, Infrastructure, Networks, Cloud, Architecture, Product Engineering and Security GRC, this role embeds operational security into the design, implementation and operation of technology services supporting Australia’s critical infrastructure.
You will be responsible for;
- Accountable for the effectiveness of the enterprise Security Operations capability.
- Accountable for enterprise cyber detection, monitoring and response.
- Accountable for operational security tooling, telemetry and visibility.
- Accountable for Security Operations maturity and continuous improvement.
- Accountable for Security Operations budgets, vendor performance and managed security services.
- Accountable for developing and leading a high-performing Security Operations team.
The other primary responsibilities of this role but is not exhaustive, may change in line with business priorities.
Lead Security Operations
- Develop and execute the Security Operations strategy aligned to the Information Security Strategy and business objectives.
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing Security Operations team.
- Own the Security Operations roadmap, budget, service delivery and vendor relationships.
- Foster a culture of accountability, operational excellence, technical leadership and continuous improvement.
Protect the Organisation
- Own Vocus’ enterprise cyber defence capability.
- Lead Security Operations across security monitoring, detection engineering, threat intelligence, threat hunting, vulnerability management, offensive security and incident response.
- Ensure effective operational visibility across endpoint, identity, cloud, network, applications and critical infrastructure environments.
- Continuously improve operational security controls, detection coverage and response capability.
Detection Engineering & Threat Intelligence
- Develop and continuously improve detection content, security analytics and operational use cases.
- Operationalise threat intelligence to improve detection, prevention and response capabilities.
- Lead proactive threat hunting activities to identify advanced threats before impact.
Exposure Management
- Own the enterprise vulnerability and exposure management capability.
- Ensure vulnerabilities and security exposures are prioritised using business risk and remediated in partnership with Technology teams.
- Provide executive visibility of organisational cyber exposure and remediation performance.
Incident Response
- Lead the response to major cyber security incidents.
- Maintain incident response readiness through playbooks, exercises and continual improvement.
- Coordinate post-incident reviews and ensure lessons learned are embedded into operational practices.
Security Platforms
- Own the operational effectiveness and continual improvement of enterprise security platforms, including SIEM, EDR/XDR, NDR, threat intelligence, vulnerability management and security automation capabilities.
- Drive automation and orchestration to improve operational efficiency and response times.
Security Operations Governance
- Develop and maintain Security Operations standards, playbooks, operating procedures and service metrics.
- Define operational maturity targets and drive continual capability improvement.
- Ensure Security Operations capabilities are regularly tested through exercises, simulations and validation activities.
Stakeholder Management
- Build trusted partnerships across Technology and the business to improve cyber resilience.
- Present operational security performance, cyber risk and emerging threats to executive stakeholders.
- Support regulatory reporting and cyber incident obligations associated with critical infrastructure and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
What you’ll bring to this role
Essential
- Maintain an effective enterprise Security Operations capability that provides timely detection, investigation and response to cyber threats.
- Continuously improve Vocus' cyber defence capability through enhancements to monitoring, detection engineering, threat intelligence, threat hunting, vulnerability management and offensive security.
- Reduce organisational cyber risk through proactive identification and remediation of vulnerabilities and security exposures.
- Ensure enterprise security platforms are resilient, optimised and provide comprehensive operational visibility across the technology estate.
- Lead the effective management of cyber security incidents, including technical response, stakeholder communication and post-incident improvement.
- Develop and maintain a high-performing, technically capable Security Operations team.
- Provide meaningful operational security metrics, reporting and insights that support executive decision-making and demonstrate Security Operations effectiveness.
- Maintain executive confidence in the organisation's cyber defence capability through transparent reporting, measurable outcomes and continual improvement.
- Build strong partnerships across Technology and the business to embed operational security into the design, implementation and operation of technology services.
- Ensure Security Operations supports compliance with applicable regulatory, contractual and critical infrastructure obligations.
Desirable
- Experience within telecommunications, critical infrastructure or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience operating enterprise security platforms such as CrowdStrike, Elastic, ExtraHop or equivalent technologies.
- Experience with AWS and Azure cloud environments.
- Experience integrating threat intelligence into operational security capabilities.
- Experience establishing or maturing Security Operations Centres and detection engineering capabilities.
- Experience working within ISO/IEC 27001, Essential Eight, SOCI Act, DISP, NIST Cybersecurity Framework or equivalent governance frameworks.
- Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC, OSCP or equivalent.
