Telecommunications Field Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Field Engineer to join our team. The role involves hands-on field work supporting the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of telecommunications networks, including fibre optic and other carrier infrastructure systems.
You will play a key role in ensuring reliable network performance, diagnosing complex faults, and supporting the delivery of high-quality telecommunications projects in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and support telecommunications network infrastructure and associated equipment.
- Install, commission, and monitor telecommunications networks, including fibre optic systems.
- Conduct testing, fault finding, and performance evaluation of network equipment and infrastructure.
- Identify and resolve complex technical issues in telecommunications networks.
- Carry out site inspections, surveys, and quality assurance checks.
- Provide technical advice and support to clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards, industry regulations, and project requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation, test results, and field reports.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project teams to deliver successful outcomes.
Skills & Experience
- Relevant qualification in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in telecommunications on-field required.
- Strong understanding of telecommunications systems, structured cabling, and network infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and network plans.
- Hands-on experience with testing, commissioning, and fault diagnosis of network systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex technical issues.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with clients and team members.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to various sites.
Mandatory Tickets & Certifications
- First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011 or equivalent)
- CPR Certification (HLTAID009 or equivalent)
- Working at Heights Certification
- Confined Space Entry Certification
- Pole Access / Pole Top Rescue Certification (Energex Approved – Non-Electrical Worker Accreditation)
- White Card (Construction Induction)
- Fibre optic / telecommunications cabling accreditation (installation, splicing, testing)
- Telecommunications industry safety induction (carrier or project specific)
Highly Desirable
- Experience with OTDR testing, fibre splicing, and network loss testing.
- Experience working in carrier networks or large-scale fibre deployments.
- Civil or rigging experience in telecommunications infrastructure.
- Additional electrical or communications certifications.
