The Electrical Field Service Engineer is responsible for maintaining the performance, reliability and safety of Flanders rotating equipment and associated control systems, including Dragline, Rope Shovel and ARDVARC Rotary Blast Hole Drill platforms. The role provides specialist technical support across operational sites, partners with site stakeholders to drive safe and efficient operation of control systems, and builds site capability through coaching, training and continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities
Technical Support & Reliability
- Drive the performance and reliability of rotating equipment and control systems through effective fault-finding, troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs and system improvements.
- Provide specialist technical support to Dragline, Rope Shovel and ARDVARC Rotary Blast Hole Drill control systems across all operational sites.
- Participate in the After-Hours Breakdown Support roster to help maintain 24/7 operational coverage, as directed.
- Conduct trials, tests and improvements through controlled and documented change-management processes.
Stakeholder Engagement & Safety
- Liaise with site operational stakeholders to ensure the safe, compliant and efficient operation of control systems.
- Work closely with equipment and control system specialists to identify, develop and implement improvements in a timely manner.
- Maintain strong working relationships and professional conduct with customers, vendors, contractors and colleagues, upholding Flanders's reputation at all times.
Capability & Development
- Coach, mentor and develop site personnel in the safe and effective operation of control systems and rotating equipment.
- Deliver regular training and information-sharing sessions to upskill customer site-based maintenance teams.
Systems, Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate registers for software changes, overrides and bridges in line with governance requirements.
- Maintain software backups and manage all system changes under a formal change-control process.
- Review and update maintenance tasks, system checks and statutory tests as required, ensuring compliance with statutory and client requirements.
- Lead by example and demonstrate FLANDERS core values, keep people safe, do the right thing, understand the customer, deliver excellence, take ownership and use data.
- Follow all FEAU Policies, Procedures, SOP’s and reasonable management directives.
- Ensure you protect, secure and keep confidential customer information, employee personal and medical information, intellectual property and other private and confidential information.
- Comply with all reasonable training requests in accordance with FEAU Policies and procedures, as well as requested by management.
Essential:
- Trade certification in Electrical, Instrumentation or Electronics (or equivalent), or relevant Engineering qualification.
- Current Queensland driver's licence.
- Standard 11 / Coal Board Medical (or willingness to obtain), where site-specific.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and maintaining control systems on Dragline, Rope Shovel and/or Rotary Blast Hole Drill equipment.
- Extensive working knowledge of Studio 5000 (Rockwell Automation) for machine fault-finding and programming.
- Sound understanding of rotating equipment, drive systems and associated control architecture.
- Experience working within a formal change-management and document-control framework.
- Prior experience in an open-cut mining or heavy industrial maintenance environment (preferred).
Desirable:
- Restricted or Open Electrical Licence.
- Recognised PLC / control systems certification.
