About the role:
- The Cyber Security & Compliance Specialist is a key role responsible for protecting Darebin City Council’s information assets across applications, infrastructure, and cloud environments.
- Aligned with organisational strategy and regulatory requirements, this role ensures compliance with key frameworks such as VPDSF, ACSC Essential Eight and ISO 27000 standards, while leading operational security initiatives.
- You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external providers to deliver secure, resilient, and efficient IT services, while continuously improving the Council’s cyber security maturity.
You will:
- Lead security operations including monitoring, incident response, and threat hunting activities
• Ensure compliance with VPDSF, ACSC Essential Eight, ISO 27000 and other regulatory standards • Manage and optimise security tools such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, IAM, and vulnerability platforms
- Provide expert security advice on projects to both internal and external stake holders and senior leadership
- Develop and enhance security operations playbooks and processes, supporting effective incident management and strengthening the Council’s security posture across all internal and external platforms.
About you:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced cyber security professional with strong technical expertise, stakeholder engagement skills, and a passion for continuous improvement.
- Proven experience applying security frameworks such as VPDSF, ACSC, ISO27001, and ASD guidelines
- Relevant qualification in Information Security (or related discipline) with 5–10 years’ hands-on experience
- Strong technical expertise across security platforms including firewalls, EDR/XDR, SIEM, IAM, DLP, PAM, and Zero Trust
- Experience with Microsoft security tools such as Defender, Sentinel (SIEM), and Intune
- Demonstrated ability to lead security initiatives, manage stakeholders, and drive operational and strategic improvements
- Responding to internal and external audit queries and providing reports to senior leadership.
