Senior Resident Medical Officer - General Medicine
Temporary Full-Time (12 months)
The General Medicine Department at Manning Hospital provides generalist care to patients admitted under the General Medicine teams which are led by Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and Staff Specialists (SS) physicians. The physicians are also subspecialised in areas including respiratory medicine, renal, gastroenterology, cardiac, geriatrics medicine and Infection Diseases. The department is accredited with the Basic Physician Training (BPT) program.
This SRMO position aims to provide PGY2 and above doctors who are interested in joining Basic Physician Training an opportunity to further develop their skills at a subspecialist level whilst rotating amongst General Medicine teams with various sub-specialities; educational roles; afterhours hospital wards coverage; and also rotating in roles whilst conducting assessments of potential General Medicine patients in the Emergency Department.
The rotation is designed for a full 12 months with guaranteed exposure to all the above areas including a considerable amount of time (to the maximum of 6 months) being the SRMO of one of the General Medicine teams. To provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in General Medicine practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas at Manning Hospital. The Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) forms part of the General Medicine team within medical workforce and is responsible for providing, under the supervision of the Physician, General Medicine services, to patients admitted or in the process of being admitted under these teams.
This role will include participation in afterhours hospital coverage (Evening, Night and Weekend shifts) and may include rotations to the Wingham Community Hospital - Rehabilitation.

Manning Base Hospital treats approximately 25,000 inpatients, 33,000 Emergency Department patients and 90,700 outpatients each year.
With a population of over 90,300 and with the median age of 52 years old the Lower Mid North Coast Sector is projected to have the highest growth in the group age of 85 years and over.
