Primary objective
As a member of the on-site management team of Chemical Pathology; contribute to the provision of a safe, efficient, clinically responsive,
comprehensive diagnostic, analytical and advisory service for Territory Pathology clients in Darwin and surrounds.
Context statement
We are seeking a skilled professional with in-depth expertise in Biochemistry to cover extended leave. This supervisory role involves
leading the local work group while supporting key operational functions including documentation, training, quality reviews,
validation/verification processes, analyser troubleshooting, stock management, specimen requirement on the collection guide and
continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will also contribute to occasional call outs or shifts as required to ensure
workflow and support our 24-7 rotating team; but this position is predominately Monday to Friday. Our scope includes general chemistry,
endocrinology, cardiac and tumour markers, therapeutic drug monitoring and osmolality; primarily using QuidelOrtho XT 7600 analysers
via a track system, but also have Abbott architect i1000 and HPLC Hba1c methodologies. The position aligns with Capability Framework
Level 7 (CF 7) under the Northern Territory Public Sector guidelines and requires a commitment to implementing best practices within the
resources available to our dedicated team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Be an active member of the. Biochemistry leadership team, providing training to Territory Pathology staff, thinking laterally when
initiating and developing team goals, strategies and work plans, making effective use of the individual and team capabilities while also
considering the ramifications of issues and the longer term impact on the work team
2. Empower staff by delegating tasks and agreeing on clear performance standards. Provide constructive and regular feedback to the
team, dealing with underperformance promptly and proactively, offering assistance to team members, stakeholders, and patients, to
foster mutually beneficial relationships and outcomes. Seek guidance and advice when required
3. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
4. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour, adhering to the Public
Sector Code of Conduct and Territory Pathology values.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Education and Qualifications Possession of a Medical Laboratory Science degree, or equivalent, is a minimum mandatory qualification
requirement. Possession of a higher relevant qualification in pathology is desirable.
2. Work History & Experience: Demonstrated minimum of five years clinical work experience in a clinical laboratory, including a recent
period of work experience with duties, accountabilities and responsibilities at a level commensurate with this position.
3. Knowledge and Skills: The demonstration of an in-depth technical knowledge and skills in Clinical Chemistry, and in the management
of team resources to maintain NATA accreditation is mandatory. Demonstrated ability to critically review performance in Quality
Control and Quality Assurance programs, including the investigation of aberrant results.
4. Personal Attributes: Demonstrated initiative and adaptability by listening to ideas and actions proposed by others. Make decisions
that are fair equitable and transparent without personal bias. Promote a positive working environment by providing and accepting
constructive feedback. Critically analyse own performance, identifying strengths and weaknesses by actively seeking feedback from
