We specialise in Self-Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) audits and also provide statutory, compliance and trust account audit services across a diverse range of clients.
We are seeking an experienced External Auditor to join our professional audit team.
The successful applicant will primarily undertake audits of Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs) and will be responsible for ensuring that financial statements and fund activities comply with applicable auditing, taxation and superannuation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct audits of Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs), including auditing each fund’s financial statements and assessing compliance with the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 (SIS Act) and associated regulatory requirements.
· Perform detailed substantive audit testing to verify the existence, ownership and market value of fund assets, including listed securities, unlisted companies, unit trusts and property investments, whether held directly or through other investment structures.
· Review and test statutory and regulatory information, including relevant ASIC and Australian Taxation Office (ATO) records.
· Audit SMSF compliance requirements, including in-house assets, related-party transactions, separation of fund assets, death benefit payments, pension requirements and lump-sum payments.
· Review and test audit workpapers and supporting documentation supplied by clients, including bank reconciliations, taxation reconciliations and other financial records.
· Identify audit discrepancies, compliance concerns and matters requiring further investigation and communicate these issues appropriately.
· Prepare and maintain accurate audit working papers and supporting documentation in accordance with professional auditing standards.
· Draft audit reports, management letters and other audit documentation and assist with the finalisation of audit engagements.
· Raise invoices and maintain accurate records relating to completed audit engagements.
· Liaise regularly with internal team members, accountants, administrators and clients to obtain information, resolve audit queries and ensure audits are completed within required timeframes.
· Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable professional, ethical and quality assurance requirements.
Skills and Experience
The successful applicant will ideally possess:
· A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline;
· Previous experience in external auditing;
· Experience with SMSF audits will be highly regarded;
· Sound knowledge of Australian accounting and auditing standards;
· Knowledge of SMSF regulatory and compliance requirements;
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
· High attention to detail and accuracy;
· Excellent organisational and time-management skills;
· Strong written and verbal communication skills; and
· The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a professional team.
Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on qualifications and experience.
