Benara Nurseries is one of Australia’s largest wholesale production nurseries, located on a 147-hectare site in Western Australia. Established in 1963, we are a family-owned and managed company, now with four generations actively involved in the nursery. Combined, the owners have over 300 years of experience in producing plants for the horticultural industry.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Work Health and Safety Officer to join our team at our head office in Carabooda. In this role, you will lead and implement WHS initiatives to ensure compliance, foster a strong safety culture, and maintain our commitment to an accident-free workplace. You will work closely with leaders across the business, providing practical guidance, ensuring policies meet current legislation, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the development, implementation, and review of WHS policies, procedures, and best practice guides.
- Deliver regular training, inductions, and toolbox meetings to build a strong safety culture.
- Coordinate and chair our Safety Committee meetings.
- Conduct and update Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
- Investigate hazards, incidents, and injuries, and recommend corrective actions.
- Oversee employee rehabilitation, return-to-work programs and liaise with our workers compensation insurers.
- Monitor compliance and conduct regular audits.
- Develop and test emergency procedures through regular drills.
- Manage our traffic management plan and conduct pre-start checks on the sales vehicle fleet.
- Maintain accurate WHS records and prepare reports for senior management.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
-
Diploma (or equivalent) qualification in Work Health and Safety.
- Demonstrated experience in a similar WHS senior role.
- Strong interpersonal and people-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Hands-on leadership style with high energy and initiative.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven ability to problem-solve and find effective solutions.
Desirable:

Experience in the horticulture, agricultural, manufacturing, or operational sector would be an advantage.
