About the role
The Deputy Clinical Director (DCD) of Mental Health and Specialist Services (MHSS) Medical Workforce supports the Clinical Director (CD) to deliver effective operational performance across MHSS. Working closely with the MHSS Executive Leadership team, the role ensures high-quality, sustainable care aligned with organisational priorities.
The DCD reports operationally to the CD and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer. The incumbent will also collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer and the broader Gold Coast Health Executive team. The position comprises 0.5 FTE as DCD and 0.5 FTE in a clinical role as allocated.
The role oversees training, governance, performance, research, workforce planning, rostering and professional development of the MHSS medical workforce, while contributing to system-wide reform, innovation, and service integration across the mental health continuum.
Requirements for the role
Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis screening.
Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRANZCP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and registrable as a Psychiatry specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Internationally trained candidates may require an acceptable Comparability Assessment undertaken by the appropriate Australian Specialist Medical College as part of the application process.
Certified copies of relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
Whilst not mandatory, Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators (or evidence of progression towards), would be highly desirable.
Strong clinical and teaching experience in psychiatry.
The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for MHSS.
Clinical component of the Senior Staff Specialists or Staff Specialists report operationally to the Medical Director of the relevant work unit and professionally to Chief Medical Officer.
The Deputy Clinical Director reports operationally to the Clinical Director of Mental Health and Specialist Services and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer.

Senior Staff Specialist: Base salary from $259,072 - $274,678 p.a
Staff Specialist: Base salary from $216,643 - $251,642 p.a
