Job Description
The Business Immigration Assistant sits within a legal team and provides support in the delivery of our immigration services to our clients as well as ensuring that strong and positive client relationships with our corporate and individual clients are developed and maintained. The tasks performed may vary depending upon the client/s that the Business Immigration Assistant works on and / or the legal team they are part of.
The Business Immigration Assistant is a casual part time role for current law students to provide support to Fragomen legal teams in the execution of visas and other client deliverables.
The BIA requires a keen attention to detail, and the ability to work independently to specific processes and procedures. The BIA will also have good client service and communications skills, as limited interaction with corporate clients, assignees and internal clients may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Under instruction and supervision, prepare draft documents based on information received from the client/s, review client documents, and refer to case worker for final assessment and review
- Assist with routine and non legal communications and follow up with clients and assignees as necessary under instruction of the legal team
- Maintain organized files and records
- Work with legal team to develop and maintain strong positive client relationships
- Coordinate own work effectively within agreed time frames under supervision of legal staff in an administrative and client relationship capacity
- Escalate to legal team non-standard administrative issues or potential issues that may impact service delivery
- Escalate legal or migration assistance questions to the legal team
- Work with legal team to ensure the work within the team is completed accurately, correct to standard process and within any applicable service levels agreements
- Adhere to external and internal ethical and practice management standards
- Assist with ongoing updates in Connect
- Follow internal policies on risk management, use of Fragomen Connect, E-files, best practices and IT usage
- Contribute to, and foster a positive work environment
- Work as part of team to achieve team/department tasks/goals
REQUIREMENTS
- Current Law Student
- Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- Detail oriented, organised, self-motivated, resourceful, with excellent grammatical and proofreading skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a broader team
- Ability to follow process and procedures
- Excellent time management
- Reliability, setting and adhering to work schedules and coordinating with case teams on hours
- Teamwork and cooperation
