The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Environmental Scientist to lead our environmental monitoring programs. The role will see you design and manage monitoring programs, coordinate teams, interpret environmental data, assess compliance and prepare high-quality scientific reports. Providing technical leadership across monitoring programs, with the opportunity to work on major infrastructure, energy, water, Defence and resource projects.
You will be responsible for the effective delivery of environmental monitoring programs, particularly surface water and groundwater monitoring, and assess the data for Environmental Authority compliance reporting.
While this is primarily a program management, technical and reporting role, you will need a strong practical understanding of environmental field sampling and equipment. You will occasionally undertake or oversee field activities, particularly where technical expertise, troubleshooting or quality assurance is required.
You will also play an important role in ensuring junior staff and field teams are applying appropriate sampling techniques and quality assurance procedures.

About You
You will ideally have a degree or diploma in chemistry, environmental science, environmental engineering, earth science, natural resources or a related discipline, as well as a demonstrated experience managing environmental monitoring programs. Strong practical knowledge and demonstrated experience of surface water, groundwater sampling techniques, will enable you to supervise, mentoring or training junior environmental staff.
You will also have experience in assessing environmental data against Queensland Environmental Authority conditions and regulatory requirements a strong understanding of sampling QA/QC, laboratory analysis and data quality requirements.
Knowledge of the Queensland Environmental Protection Act 1994 and relevant environmental legislation, guidelines and standards is a must, and you will have experience using Monitor Pro or similar environmental data management and reporting software, or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems.
Due to the nature of the work you will enjoy the opportunity to undertake occasional regional and remote travel when required.
