Help maintain the sports fields and turf surfaces used by local clubs, schools and the community every day. Working across Blacktown City, you learn the skills needed to care for some of the area's most important sporting spaces while completing a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management.
As an Apprentice Greenkeeper, you work alongside experienced team members maintaining sports fields, turf cricket wickets and irrigation systems. You mow and prepare playing surfaces, assist with tree planting and tree maintenance, support park maintenance works, operate small plant and equipment, and contribute to minor landscaping projects. As your skills develop, you take on more responsibility and apply what you learn on the job and through formal training.
The work you do helps provide safe, high-quality sporting facilities for players, clubs and the wider community. You see the results of your work in the fields, parks and facilities people use every day, supporting active lifestyles and community participation.
This is a paid 4-year apprenticeship that combines practical experience with nationally recognised training. During the first 3 years, you complete a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management while receiving on-the-job training. In your fourth year, you focus on practical experience, supported by qualified tradespeople and experienced mentors who help you build skills for a career in sports turf management.
This role suits someone who enjoys working outdoors, has an interest in sports turf and grounds maintenance, and is keen to learn through practical experience and formal training.

Who can apply
- Applicants must be minimum 15 years of age or older
- No longer at school or home-schooled
- If currently enrolled in school or home-schooled must:
- Have completed year 9 or equivalent
- Provide written approval to proceed from either a school principal or NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) or an authorised person acting in lieu of a school principal.
- No experience required
- Ability to obtain a class C driver’s licence when able to.
