We are currently seeking a Full Time Permanent staff member to join our team based at our Operations centre at Keilor Park.
The role
Reporting to the Parks Development Coordinator, we are seeking a Qualified Horticulturist who can bring their skills and experience for:
- Implement horticultural maintenance programs/improvements in line with adopted specifications and service plans.
- Deliver maintenance works including but not limited to:
- Horticultural maintenance, improvement and planting
- Provide “on the job” training for apprentices as required.
- Contribute to improving horticultural outcomes in Brimbank through landscaping works
- Conduct pre-start checks on all plant and equipment prior to starting the item
- Ensure all plant and equipment, including tool boxes are locked and secured at the end of the working day and keys returned to designated location.
- Report any damage or malfunction of plant and equipment to your Team Leader immediately.
- Act in a courteous, cooperative, responsible and professional manner at all times
- Refer any member of the public to your Team Leader for any questions that cannot be properly answered.
- Report the need for maintenance and / or repair of Council assets observed during the course of undertaking your normal duties.
- Wear the approved Brimbank Operations uniform at all times during working hours, including all requisite safety clothing and equipment.
- Immediately advise your Team Leader of safety clothing/equipment or uniform requirements
- Work with your team to improve work practices and provide better ways of working
- Other duties as required by the Team Leader/Coordinator/Unit Manager
To be considered you will have:
- Local government experience is desirable
- Knowledge of horticultural principles and practices.
- Skill and competency in the operation of ride on mowers.
- Skill and competency in the operation and maintenance of small plant and equipment for landscape maintenance works, including pesticide application.
- Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Procedures; Quality Procedures; VicRoads Codes of Practice in relation to Traffic Control Signage and Directions.
- Knowledge and understanding in all matters of safe plant use; work practices and workplace safety.
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Ability to work to a program.
