Due to continued business growth and increasing demand for customised engineering solutions, we are seeking a motivated and technically capable Sales & Design Engineer to join our engineering team. This role combines technical engineering expertise with customer consultation, engineering design and project coordination to deliver practical structural solutions that comply with Australian Standards.
About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Sales & Design Engineer will work closely with customers, production staff and project stakeholders to develop customised engineering solutions using aluminium, stainless steel, galvanised steel and other engineering materials. The role requires the application of metallurgy and materials engineering principles in engineering design, material selection and structural assessment.
The successful applicant will be responsible for engineering design, material selection, structural assessment, technical consultation and preparation of engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide engineering advice and technical solutions to clients regarding customised structural systems, material selection and product performance.
· Assess customer requirements and develop practical engineering solutions using appropriate engineering materials and structural design principles.
· Prepare engineering drawings, technical quotations and design proposals in accordance with customer specifications and Australian Standards.
· Evaluate the mechanical properties, durability, corrosion resistance and suitability of engineering materials, including aluminium, stainless steel and galvanised steel, for structural applications.
· Recommend appropriate engineering materials and manufacturing methods based on structural requirements, environmental conditions, durability and relevant Australian Standards.
· Collaborate with production teams to optimise fabrication processes, manufacturing efficiency and product performance.
· Review engineering drawings and ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards, particularly AS 1657, and project specifications.
· Investigate material-related technical issues and recommend engineering solutions to improve product reliability, durability and manufacturing efficiency.
· Assist in resolving technical and material-related issues during design, fabrication and installation.
· Prepare engineering calculations, technical documentation, project records and design reports.
· Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal engineering and production teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to engineering design, material performance, quality assurance and manufacturing efficiency.
Essential Requirements
· Bachelor's degree (or higher qualification) in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering or another closely related engineering discipline.
· Minimum 1 year of experience in engineering design or metal manufacturing will be highly regarded.
· Demonstrated knowledge of engineering materials, including aluminium, stainless steel and galvanised steel, metallurgy, manufacturing processes and material performance.
· Strong understanding of engineering drawings and technical documentation.
· Experience working with CAD software and engineering drawings.
· Knowledge of Australian Standards applicable to aluminium structures and access systems, particularly AS 1657.
· Ability to apply engineering principles in the design, assessment and specification of structural systems and engineering materials.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Strong communication and customer relationship skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
· Australian Driver Licence.

Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
