It is anticipated that applicants for Design Engineering positions will have higher level tertiary qualifications in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering or a similar discipline, along with extensive technical design experience in a commercial R&D environment. Ideal applicants will also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; strong IT skills and good mechanical aptitude if an Electronics Engineer and good electronics aptitude if a Mechanical Engineer. You must be a strong team player and will be comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the role of Design Engineer involves:
- Participation in concept generation “brainstorming ” sessions and assistance in generating concepts to meet system requirement specifications
- Generating design concepts and capturing intellectual property;
- 3D CAD modelling of parts and assemblies of complex systems using CAD and FEA tools or Altium and KiCAD for electronics.
- Detailed design, including generation of manufacturing drawings or PCB design, embedded micro controller and software development.
- Analysis and design activities to support the design process
- Designing and conducting research and testing to support the design and development process
- Assembly, set to work and testing of prototypes
- Liaison with manufacturers to assist in getting designs ready for production
- Assisting in the preparation of technical reports for consulting projects such as design reviews, failure investigations, stress analysis, concept design & feasibility studies.
