Apply now for a Gastroenterology Senior Resident Medical Officer (PGY3+) position at Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) for the 2026 clinical year. The successful applicant will gain valuable experience to provide quality medical care to patients in a complex clinical environment, as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This includes the assessment and management of patients across several clinical departments under the supervision of senior practitioners whilst developing broad skills in clinical decision making and practice.
As this position is for the current clinical year, our ideal candidate will be able to commence with us as soon as possible. Commencement dates can be negotiated for the right candidate.
As a teaching hospital, LBH supports its Junior Medical Officers with weekly protected teaching for prevocational trainees and a JMO Education schedule including clinical case presentations, Grand Rounds Whole Hospital, and department specific meetings and education sessions. We work closely with the University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH) who also facilitates teaching and simulation sessions for medical staff.
Where you'll be working
Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.
The hospital is an acute regional referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy Emergency Department (40,000 presentations annually), ICU and Coronary Care Unit, as well as Surgery (general, orthopaedic and speciality surgery), Paediatrics, Mental Health, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
LBH is an affiliated teaching hospital for medical students from the University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of Western Sydney and Bond University. The hospital has a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Junior Medical Officers.
