About the Role:
The Melbourne Clinic are seeking a Caring, patient focused Psychiatry registrar with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering high quality patient care to join our supportive team. This is a full-time 1.0 FTE position for an unaccredited psychiatry registrar. 6-month rotation from August 2026 - February 2027. Includes both in-hours and weekend on call duties.

With over 200 beds the Melbourne Clinic is Australia’s largest and longest-operating private mental health facility providing a comprehensive range of psychiatric services including inpatient and outpatient and day program services to the local community.
The Professorial Unit was established in partnership with the University of Melbourne over 30 years ago integrating leading evidence based clinical practice with academic teaching and research. It provides specialised treatment for complex presentations through a multidisciplinary team, which include biological, psychological and cognitive approaches.
The Professor of Psychiatry, currently Professor Chee Ng, leads The Professorial Unit and is jointly appointed as the Healthscope Chair of Psychiatry by The Melbourne Clinic. The clinical service is provided by a team of specialist consultant psychiatrists who are all RANZCP accredited supervisors together with senior accredited psychiatry registrars on secondment from some of Melbourne’s major teaching hospitals as well as internally recruited unaccredited psychiatry registrars. There is a multidisciplinary team of psychiatric nurses, clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, dieticians and other allied health staff who work collaboratively with a patient during their treatment.
There is a local Psychiatry Training Co-ordinator, currently Dr. Siu-Ying Kwok, who supports and co-ordinates the registrar teaching program and RANZCP training. Teaching includes RANZCP examination preparation tutorials, observed interview tutorials, practical psychiatrist tutorials as well as weekly academic forum which is a high quality grand round style teaching program with invited local and international speakers. There is a broad and varied range of teaching and education opportunities whilst on placement.
Key Responsibilities:

Availability, both in-hours and weekend on call duties

Work in the inpatient adult psychiatric unit under the direct supervision by a consultant psychiatrist supervisor

Opportunities to assess and treat a wide range of high prevalence psychiatric conditions (i.e. eating disorders, addiction medicine, old age psychiatry, OCD, CPTSD, ADHD and ASD just to name a few)

Opportunities to work extensively with a multidisciplinary team

Opportunities to run group therapy programs (i.e. such as medical education group)

Opportunities to be exposed to ECT, RTMS and esketamine treatments
Essential Criteria:

Must have general registration with AHPRA

Strong interest in psychiatry with desires to apply for Psychiatry Training at a later stage

Ideally at least 3 months of experience working in a mental health setting

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a hospital setting

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Strong written communication with ability to complete appropriate written ward round paperwork and discharge summaries/letters

Genuine desires to make a difference to those suffering a mental illness and collaborating with families/carers and community teams
