The ER Lead provides expert, senior-level advice and leadership across employee relations matters, supporting a fair, compliant, and high-performing workplace at MUFG.
This role is focused on end-to-end ownership of complex employee relations case management, including misconduct, performance, grievances, and sensitive workplace matters. The ER Lead partners closely with senior leaders and People teams to provide pragmatic, commercially sound advice, drive consistent ER practices, and uplift capability across the business.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, confidently navigating complex and high-risk matters while influencing decision-making at a senior level.
Key Accountabilities and Main Responsibilities
Strategic Focus
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of ER frameworks, policies, and processes, ensuring alignment with MUFG’s risk, compliance, and people strategy
- Identify and analyse ER trends (e.g. grievances, misconduct, performance matters) to provide insights and proactive recommendations to People Leaders
- Support uplift of leadership capability across the organisation in managing ER matters effectively and consistently
Operational Management
- Lead end-to-end management of complex ER cases, including misconduct, performance, grievances, inherent requirements and disciplinary processes
- Conduct workplace investigations, including evidence gathering, interviews, and outcome recommendations
- Provide expert, commercially focused advice to senior leaders on navigating sensitive and high-risk employee matters
- Manage competing priorities across multiple complex cases, ensuring timely, fair, and consistent outcomes
- Partner closely with People Partners to support performance management and behavioural matters across their portfolios
- Ensure all case management is documented in line with governance, risk, and compliance requirements
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence
- Build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and People teams to influence decision-making and drive best practice ER outcomes
- Provide clear, confident guidance to leaders on navigating complex employee situations, balancing risk, fairness, and commercial outcomes
- Coach and support managers to build confidence and capability in handling ER matters independently over time
Governance & Risk
- Interpret and apply employment legislation, industrial instruments, and internal policies to ensure compliance and minimise organisational risk
- Identify and mitigate ER risks, providing clear recommendations aligned to MUFG’s risk appetite
- Maintain high standards of documentation, consistency, and governance across all ER activities
Experience & Personal Attributes
- Proven experience operating at a senior ER level , managing complex and high-risk employee relations matters end-to-end
- Strong working knowledge of employment law, industrial relations frameworks, and best practice ER approaches
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and provide clear, confident advice in sensitive situations
- Skilled in conducting workplace investigations and navigating complex, ambiguous scenarios
- High level of judgement, resilience, and discretion when managing confidential and high-impact matters
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to challenge and guide leaders effectively
- Commercially minded, with the ability to balance people, risk, and business outcomes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Experience working within a complex, matrixed or regulated environment is highly regarded
