About the Role
DVR Engineering is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering and manufacturing team.
The successful applicant will provide hands-on mechanical engineering and technical support across our manufacturing operations, working closely with engineering, production, machining, fabrication, welding and quality personnel.
This position requires strong mechanical engineering knowledge combined with practical manufacturing experience and the ability to develop effective engineering solutions in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, CAD models and technical documentation.
- Analyse mechanical designs and determine manufacturing feasibility across CNC machining, fabrication, welding, bending/forming and assembly processes.
- Assess materials, tolerances and technical requirements to ensure they are achievable during manufacture.
- Apply mechanical engineering and manufacturing knowledge to develop robust and repeatable manufacturing processes.
- Review designs for manufacturability and identify potential production, tolerance and technical issues.
- Develop and improve manufacturing methods, processes and work instructions.
- Provide engineering support to production personnel and resolve manufacturing and technical problems.
- Support production planning and the development of tooling, jigs, fixtures and inspection gauges.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure engineering requirements are manufacturable and measurable.
- Support dimensional verification using CMMs, micrometres, callipers and other precision measuring equipment.
- Apply FMEA and other engineering risk-analysis methodologies to identify potential manufacturing failure modes and establish appropriate process controls.
- Apply APQP and PPAP methodologies to support new product introduction and the transition from prototype to repeatable production.
- Investigate manufacturing and dimensional non-conformances using 8D or similar structured root-cause analysis techniques and develop effective engineering corrective actions.
- Analyse manufacturing process capability and implement improvements to reduce defects and improve repeatability, efficiency and productivity.
- Support final assembly and functional testing to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications and customer technical requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or recognised equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, welding, bending/forming and assembly processes.
- Sound knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation.
- Working knowledge of FMEA, APQP, PPAP and manufacturing process-control methodologies.
- Strong analytical and practical engineering problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organised and deadline-driven, with the ability to manage multiple engineering and manufacturing priorities simultaneously.
Remuneration
$75,000 – $85,000 per annum + superannuation (dependent on skills and experience).
