Narrabri Coal Operations is seeking a Development Electrical Engineer to provide technical support and leadership to the underground development department.
Reporting to the Development Superintendent, this role will support the safe, reliable and compliant operation of development equipment through maintenance planning, defect management, overhaul support, breakdown response, commissioning and continuous improvement.
Working closely with the Development Department, Shift Engineers, Electrical Trades, OEMs and the Electrical Engineering Manager, this role will provide technical input into the planning and coordination of electrical work, while supporting improvements in equipment reliability, defect management and development performance.
What You’ll Do
- Provide electrical engineering and technical support to underground development operations.
- Support the safe, reliable and compliant operation of development equipment and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Assist with short and medium-term equipment planning, overhaul scopes, defect management, technical investigations and introduction-to-site requirements.
- Work with development, maintenance, engineering, OEMs and contractors to improve fleet reliability, availability and performance.
- Review equipment data, remote monitoring systems, delays and fault history to identify issues early and support practical corrective actions.
- Provide technical input into electrical upgrades, equipment modifications, automation improvements and development equipment projects.
- Assist with maintaining electrical standards, procedures, risk assessments and compliance requirements in consultation with the Development Department and Electrical Engineering Manager.
- Participate in audits, inspections, investigations and field leadership activities
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or an electrical trade background with demonstrated progression toward electrical engineering qualifications.
- Previous experience working with continuous miners, shuttle cars, feeder breakers, substations, trailing/reeling cables or underground development infrastructure.
- Practical electrical knowledge of mobile mining equipment, electrical infrastructure, protection systems, cables, substations and control systems.
- Experience supporting maintenance, defect management, equipment reliability, overhauls, commissioning or improvement projects.
- Interest or exposure to equipment digitalisation, remote monitoring, automation, data analysis or condition monitoring systems.
- Ability to interpret drawings, standards, OEM documentation, maintenance history and equipment fault information.
