Our client is a large and well-established pre-owned vehicle dealer located in Melbourne’s inner city suburbs. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Car Buyer to join their acquisition team. This role will see you sourcing and purchasing quality used vehicles across a broad range of market segments, including volume, prestige, exotic and commercial vehicles. You will be identifying opportunities through wholesale networks, auctions, dealer contacts and trade channels, then negotiating purchases that make strong commercial sense for the business. You will be responsible for accurately appraising vehicles, assessing market demand, understanding likely reconditioning requirements and ensuring stock is acquired at the right price. You will work closely with sales, operations and logistics teams to help maintain a strong, profitable and well-balanced inventory pipeline. This is a role for someone who understands the used car market, has strong industry relationships and knows how to move quickly when the right buying opportunity presents itself.
To be considered for this position, you will need proven experience in automotive buying, wholesale vehicle sourcing, acquisitions, valuations or a closely related used vehicle role. A strong network across wholesalers, dealers, auctions and trade partners will be highly regarded. You will need excellent negotiation skills, sound commercial judgement and a strong understanding of used vehicle values across multiple categories. The successful applicant will be confident working autonomously, but also comfortable contributing to a fast-paced, high-performing team environment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to assess vehicles accurately are essential. You will also need a current driver’s licence and a professional approach to dealing with trade partners, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
The successful candidate will receive a retainer, commission and performance-based bonuses, with uncapped on-target earnings expected to range from $100k to $220k+ depending on results.
