About the role
Statseeker is seeking a passionate Backend Software Engineer to join our technology team in Brisbane.
You will work on projects that expand the capability, performance, scalability, and reliability of our enterprise-level network monitoring solution.
This role is suited to someone who is experienced in backend development, working close to the operating system, and building reliable software that runs on a Unix-based platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend functionality for Statseeker’s network performance monitoring platform.
- Build reliable, scalable, and performant software using C, C++, Python, and Perl.
- Work with other team members to design, improve, and maintain backend APIs, services, data processing systems, and internal tooling.
- Contribute to the modernisation of legacy systems while maintaining compatibility with existing product architecture.
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex issues across application, system, and network layers.
- Participate in scope-of-work estimation, technical design, and release planning.
- Employ and advocate best practices in backend software development, testing, code review, and maintainability.
- Work effectively in Unix/Linux environments, including command-line tools, scripting, process management, networking, and system diagnostics.
Requirements for the role
- 5+ years of experience in commercial software development.
- Strong software development skills in one or more of C, C++, Python, or Perl.
- Experience developing software on Unix/Linux systems.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, APIs, services, data processing, and system-level software.
- Ability to diagnose and debug complex software issues in production-like environments.
- Experience working with networked systems, system services, or performance-sensitive applications.
- Comfort using command-line tools, shell scripting, Git, and issue-tracking systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with frontend, QA, product, and other engineering team members.

Desired Education/Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in software engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
- Familiarity with Git, VMware, Jira, Unix/Linux, FreeBSD, SQL, REST APIs, networking protocols, and system diagnostics tools.
- Experience with network monitoring, SNMP, time-series data, or high-performance data collection systems.
- Experience with Python automation, backend test frameworks, or CI/CD pipelines.
