Council is seeking a proactive and passionate Safety Coordinator to lead and strengthen our workplace health, safety and wellbeing culture across the organisation.
In this key role, you will coordinate and maintain Council's WHS Management System, ensure legislative compliance, lead safety initiatives, manage incident investigations, oversee workers' compensation and return-to-work programs, and provide expert advice to leaders and employees.
You will work closely with stakeholders across all departments to deliver practical safety solutions, facilitate training and awareness programs, lead the WHS Committee, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety performance.
What you'll bring:

Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management and injury management practices.

Experience in developing and implementing WHS systems, policies and procedures.

Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

A passion for creating safe, healthy and supportive workplaces.
Frequent travel to the Torres Strait Islands is a requirement of this position.

What We're Looking For:
We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. The ideal candidate will have:

Qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety (or related discipline), or currently working towards, with demonstrated experience in a WHS role.

Proven ability to lead safety initiatives, drive organisational change, and foster a positive safety culture.

Experience in incident investigation, auditing, risk management, and WHS systems administration.
-
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build effective working relationships at all levels.
-
Well developed analytical and reporting skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
