About the position
The Cafe Chef Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the café, ensuring high standards of food quality, customer service, and operational efficiency. This role involves managing kitchen and café staff, supervising stock control and rostering, maintaining food safety compliance, and supporting the overall performance of the business.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the Cafe Chef Manager include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring efficient workflow and smooth service delivery.
- Plan, develop, and update menus, including seasonal offerings, while determining food quantities and costs.
- Prepare and cook high-quality meals in accordance with recipes, business standards, and customer expectations.
- Monitor food quality, consistency, and presentation to ensure high standards are maintained at all times.
- Train, supervise, and support kitchen staff, fostering a productive and collaborative team environment.
- Assist with staff development, rostering, and the implementation of kitchen procedures and best practices.
- Manage stock ordering, inventory control, and supplier relationships to ensure adequate supply levels and minimise waste.
- Monitor food and labour costs and implement effective cost-control measures to support business profitability.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and standards.
- Coordinate kitchen operations during busy service periods to ensure timely and efficient food preparation and service.
- Collaborate with management to develop new dishes, improve existing recipes, and contribute to menu innovation.
- Liaise with front-of-house staff to ensure effective communication and a positive customer dining experience.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
- Ensure all food preparation and kitchen activities comply with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a café, hospitality, or kitchen management role.
- Certificate IV or higher qualification in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Proven experience in staff supervision, training, and performance support.
- Sound knowledge of food safety standards and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
- Ability to effectively manage daily operations while maintaining high standards of food quality and customer service.
