Odyssey House NSW’s trauma-informed services set us apart as a leader in the support service space for alcohol and other drugs dependency. Our teams help clients to meet their goals and address underlying trauma and mental health issues, while also developing new skills to improve all aspects of their lives.
We provide a diverse range of services to individuals, families and community education. Our services include withdrawal services; one-on-one assessment and treatment by psychologists and counsellors; group therapy; residential rehabilitation; and free education at Odyssey College.

Description:
This Communications Officer role will assist Odyssey House NSW and its consortium partners to support communities right around NSW to empower themselves to reduce harms to their community related to AOD through a range of strategies and activities. The Comms Officer will develop and lead on a range of digital strategies, including management of internal and external comms, website, and social media.
Reporting to the Manager- Prevention and Community Development you will work directly with communities, Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) groups, as well as with Community Development Officers and our partners within the Centre for Alcohol and Other Drugs at the Ministry of Health.
This brand-new role is explicitly designed for an energetic, creative communications professional who is motivated to use their skills to support our community.
Skills and Experiences:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field or equivalent experience.
Minimum three to five years’ experience in a similar communications role.
Great writing skills, including producing copy for a range of audiences.
An instinct for a good story and willingness to seek out interviews and story opportunities to share with a wider audience.
Experience developing and executing communications and social media activities.
A willingness to work collaboratively in a small team, providing leadership and mentoring.
Strong attention to detail.
An ability to set goals and work productively with minimal supervision.
Willingness to engage with people from a range of backgrounds and experience.
Not-for-profit experience would be desirable
