Primary objective
Provide advice and support for strategic project/program development, evaluation, and research activities to support
achievement of the department’s strategic objectives.
Context statement
The Strategic Projects branch is responsible for ensuring programs and projects of work are aligned to agency, Northern
Territory Government and Australian Government strategic priorities. Strategic Projects promote and maintain agency
program management standards, ensuring consistent delivery of and reporting on the strategic program by business areas.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage and support the development of strategic projects/programs, including project and program design,
implementation, evaluation, and research, to ensure alignment with relevant NTG and departmental frameworks.
2. Coordinate and monitor program and project performance reporting to ensure the delivery of high-quality reports to
governance groups and senior leadership
3. Provide sound advice and support on project management and project governance administrative procedures which
impact on the operation of programs and projects across the department.
4. Support Department of Education and Training staff in ensuring adherence to and compliance with project management
frameworks, standards, and processes for the Enterprise Project Management Office.
5. Coordinate and provide high level secretariat services to the associated project governance groups.
6. Liaise with key stakeholders to facilitate a collaborative approach to quality project management and governance
processes of programs and projects.
7. Develop, coordinate and maintain relevant administrative systems and processes to support the effective achievement
of work objectives.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Basic knowledge and experience of project management and project governance frameworks, standards and processes,
as well as risk mitigation, specific to project and programs in a large, complex organisation.
2. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written and oral communication, with the ability to work in collaboration and
influence a wide range of stakeholders, and experience in providing secretariat duties on project governance
committees.
3. High level organisational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise and meet
deadlines.
4. Sound experience in monitoring and analysing reports, providing written submissions and related reporting.
5. Proven ability to understand stakeholder perspective, expectations and desired outcomes and adapt communication,
style and approach as required.
6. Awareness of challenges and directions relating to project management and project governance matters in a public
sector, shared services context.
Desirable
7. Tertiary qualifications in education, project management, business or similar.
8. Experience working in an educational context.
