About the work unit / facility
The Department of Anaesthesia at Townsville University Hospital (TUH) is part of North Queensland's major tertiary referral hospital, providing specialist services to a large and diverse population across the region. The department supports a broad range of surgical specialties including cardiac and thoracic surgery, paediatric surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, urology, vascular, plastics, tertiary obstetrics and gynaecology, and complex general surgical services.
With 14 operating theatres and more than 16,000 procedures performed annually, the department delivers anaesthetic services across a wide range of elective and emergency activities, as well as out-of-theatre services including endoscopy, interventional cardiology, neuroradiology, medical imaging, mental health and the Acute Pain Service.
Remuneration and benefits
We offer a competitive remuneration package, generous leave entitlements and a range of professional and lifestyle benefits, including:
Base salary range: $222,059 to $281,545 p.a. (L18-L27)
4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
Attraction and retention incentive allowance (50% base salary)
Regional and rural attraction allowance (5% base salary)
Motor vehicle allowance between $21,000 and $25,500 p.a.
Professional development allowance of $21,500 p.a. + 3.6 weeks p.a. leave

About your opportunity
Join the Vic Callanan Department of Anaesthetics and Perioperative Medicine and deliver high-quality anaesthetic and perioperative care within a busy tertiary referral service. You'll enjoy a diverse clinical workload across a broad range of surgical and procedural specialties, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests and contribute to service innovation.
In addition to providing expert clinical care, you'll play an important role in teaching, supervision and mentoring, supporting learners from medical students through to provisional fellows. Research, quality improvement and outreach activities are encouraged, offering a rewarding opportunity to shape anaesthetic and perioperative care across North Queensland.
Requirements:
Qualified as a medical practitioner with specialist qualifications and registration, or eligible for registration, as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in the appropriate discipline.
Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). Candidates who will be obtaining fellowship in the near future are encouraged to apply. Appointment will be at a lower classification level until minimum requirements for the Staff Specialist classification are obtained.
