Senior Health & Safety Advisor (Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane)

HDR is seeking a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to support the health, safety, and wellbeing of our people across Australia. This role can be based in Sydney, Brisbane, or Melbourne with flexibility from 3 to 5 days per week, depending on candidate preference.
As a design consultancy, much of HDR's work is in the planning and design phase, with some site-based activity. This role will play a key part in influencing safety outcomes early in the project lifecycle, as well as supporting safe execution.
In the role of Senior Health & Safety Advisor, you will:

Act as a visible champion for health, wellbeing and safety, supporting teams with practical advice and guidance.

Support safety planning, deliver health and safety training, review safety documentation and contribute to initiatives across a range of projects and sectors.

Influence safety outcomes early in the project lifecycle by supporting teams during the planning and design phases, while also contributing to safe project execution.

Develop and implement comprehensive HSE Project Plans in conjunction with project teams.

Work closely with project teams to ensure alignment with HSE Project Plans.

Conduct regular site inspections and HSE audits to monitor compliance.

Prepare reports to support ongoing HSE efforts.

Provide advice and recommendations to senior leadership on HSE matters.

Work alongside Operational Leadership and Human Resources to strengthen wellbeing initiatives and address psychosocial risks.

Chair the Australian Safety Committee, prepare safety performance reporting, support SH&E program implementation, and assist with incident reporting and investigations.

Foster and promote a strong safety culture across the organisation.
About You

You will bring:

Demonstrated technical experience in health and safety management, ideally within an architecture and engineering consultancy.

Experience supporting both office-based teams and project/site environments.

Knowledge of mental health, psychosocial risk management, and the ability to foster a culture of wellbeing.

Strong communication skills including experience producing high quality reports, training, briefings, articles and other project related documentation for a range of audiences.

Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence outcomes.

Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and adaptability.
