Purpose of the Role
The School Nurse/First Aid Officer manages the physical health and wellbeing of students and the broader College
community, aligned with ELTHAM College’s philosophy. This role maintains health programs and procedures that
meet professional, legal, and compliance requirements.
This role will administer first aid and manage medical situations for children aged 3 to 18 years and ELTHAM
College staff and visitors as needed.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
Promotes and protects the optimal health and wellbeing of students and staff
- Provide effective initial treatment for conditions ranging from minor injuries (cuts, abrasions, soft tissue
injuries, fractures, wound care, minor bleeding) to emergency medical situations (trauma, severe
bleeding, asthma attacks).
- Establish and implement Health Support Plans for students with specific medical conditions, including
anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes and epilepsy.
- Documentation of all treatments, procedure, or interaction in the student’s health record for clear
communication, continuity of care, and legal protection
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and standards for health care delivery.
- Liaise with families as required.
Develops and implements student health care plans
- Monitor student medication and health support plans, ensuring they are updated regularly.
- Maintain comprehensive, current health information for all students and communicate relevant details to
staff.
- Follow up with families about medical information as needed.
- Prepare annual Student Health Support Plans for Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, and Epilepsy.
- Request emergency Action Plans annually or as needed from student families
- Collaborate with administration during enrolment to ensure accurate health records.
