The Interventional Neuroradiology (INR) term at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) offers a unique opportunity for junior doctors to work within a highly specialised service providing minimally invasive treatments for complex neurological and cerebrovascular conditions.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, trainees are involved in the assessment, investigation and management of patients requiring interventional procedures for conditions such as acute stroke, cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and other neurovascular disorders. Working closely with Interventional Neuroradiologists, Neurosurgeons, Neurologists and Critical Care teams, trainees gain valuable insight into cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.
Based within a major tertiary referral hospital, this term provides exposure to complex cases from across New South Wales and offers a strong foundation in neurovascular medicine, procedural care, multidisciplinary decision-making and acute patient management. Doctors will develop skills in clinical assessment, peri-procedural care, imaging interpretation and the management of critically unwell neurological patients.
This role is ideal for doctors with an interest in neurology, neurosurgery, radiology, critical care or other acute care specialties seeking experience in a highly specialised and innovative clinical environment. What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of Neurosurgical patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Surgical Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the SRMO skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). The neurovascular SRMO is designed to be a stepping stone to further neurovascular training. It will provide excellent clinical and technical experiences with very supportive consultants guiding you. This term will have direct relevance to those considering pathways in Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology or Neurology.
