Cheatday Foods is currently seeking a skilled, reliable and enthusiastic Cook to join our growing kitchen team. This is a full-time, ongoing position based in Sydney, NSW.
About Us
Cheatday Foods is a modern café and catering food business offering a range of freshly prepared breakfast, lunch, dessert and catering menu items. The business operates as a dine-in café with indoor customer seating and also provides catering services for corporate, private and special events.
About the Role
As a Cook at Cheatday Foods, you will play a hands-on role in preparing and cooking a wide range of café and catering menu items while ensuring consistency, quality, efficiency and compliance with food safety standards.
You will work closely with the management and kitchen team to support smooth daily kitchen operations, timely meal preparation and high-quality food service outcomes across dine-in café and catering orders.
As a Cook, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Preparing and cooking a variety of breakfast, lunch, hot food, dessert and catering menu items in accordance with established recipes and business standards;
- Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, and portioning food items prior to service;
- Ensure the preparation and presentation of all dishes meets Cheatday Foods’ quality standards;
- Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff including cooks and kitchen assistants;
- Manage food preparation during busy service periods while maintaining consistency and efficiency;
- Monitor cooking times, food temperature, portion control and presentation of dishes;
- Operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, mixers, and food processors;
- Assist stock rotation, inventory checks and storage of food items in accordance with food safety requirements;
- Check the freshness and quality of ingredients and report any stock shortages or quality issues;
- Follow food safety, hygiene and Work Health & Safety (WHS)procedures at all times;
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, cooking stations and food preparation areas;
- Assist in minimising food wastage and controlling kitchen coststhrough efficient food preparation and portion control;
- Identify and report kitchen operational issues during service to support smooth workflow and timely meal preparation and;
- Assist with cleaning duties at the end of service, including sanitising equipment, benches and work areas.
Skills & Experience – Who we’re looking for:
For this position, it is expected that you will possess the following qualifications/work experience:
- Minimum Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, OR at least 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of formal qualifications;
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Cook in catering, events, or high-volume commercial kitchen;
- Practical experience in preparing, cooking and presenting a variety of meals in accordance with established recipes and quality standards;
- Sound knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and kitchen operations;
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in fast-paced, event-driven environments;
- Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment including grills, fryers, ovens, mixers and food processors;
- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and Work Health & Safety requirements;
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple food orders during busy service periods;
- High standards of cleanliness, hygiene and attention to detail;
- Ability to work cooperatively with kitchen and front-of-house staff
- A positive attitude, reliability and genuine passion for food preparation and hospitality.
Pay: $75,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
