About Hindmarsh Shire Council
Hindmarsh Shire Council services an area of over 7527km2 and has a population of over 5,600 people. We recognise the importance of providing opportunities and facilities for sport, recreation and leisure for our community. During the summer season between November and March, Hindmarsh Shire Council operates four outdoor pools located in Dimboola, Jeparit, Nhill and Rainbow that require seasonal staff.
About the Role
We are currently looking for friendly and reliable lifeguards for our four outdoor pools. Lifeguards play a vital role in ensuring the safety of patrons in and out of the water within the grounds of our swimming pools.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising patrons in and around the pool area
- Implementing emergency/first aid/resuscitation procedures as required
- Ensuring patrons adhere to facility rules and policies
Performing a range of cleaning and maintenance duties

Training Provided
Don’t have the qualification but you want to be a Lifeguard?
Council will be providing the following training courses (you must be available to attend for Council to cover this expense):
- Sunday 11 October 2026 – Pool Lifeguard Refresher (update, 1 day)
Saturday and Sunday 24 - 25 October 2026 – Pool Lifeguard (full course, 2 days)

About You
You will have a passion for safety in and around the water. You should be energetic, friendly and enjoy having fun while also possessing the ability to communicate and interact effectively with patrons of diverse ages and backgrounds. You must be 16+years to obtain the required qualifications.
Remuneration/Hourly Rates
Band 2 Rate – (18 years and older)
Applies between the hours of Monday to Sunday, 6am to 10pm
Junior Rate 16 years and under (55% of Band 2 Rate)
Applies between the hours of Monday to Sunday, 6am to 10pm
Junior Rate 17 years and under (65% of Band 2 Rate)
Applies between the hours of Monday to Sunday, 6am to 10pm

- Pool Lifeguard Qualification, or ability to obtain
- First Aid Qualification, or ability to obtain
- Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Health and Safety principles as they apply to aquatic environments
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly and approachable manner
- Ability to monitor and enforce rule compliance among pool users
- Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical, police check and Working with Children Check.
- Previous experience as a lifeguard desirable (but not essential)
