We are seeking experienced Traffic Controllers and Team Leaders to join our team in the Canberra region. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes safety seriously, works well in a crew, and is confident leading others on site.
As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for the safe set-up, operation and removal of traffic control at work sites, and for supervising and supporting your crew throughout the shift.
Key responsibilities
- Set up, monitor and remove traffic control devices in accordance with the approved Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS) / Traffic Control Plan (TCP)
- Direct and manage traffic and pedestrians safely through and around work zones
- Lead and supervise a small crew, allocating tasks and monitoring performance throughout the shift
- Conduct pre-start briefings, including escape routes, emergency procedures and site-specific hazards
- Carry out on-site risk assessments and identify changing conditions during the shift
- Complete site documentation, daily diaries and incident reports accurately
- Liaise professionally with clients, site supervisors, road authorities and members of the public
- Ensure all crew members wear correct PPE and follow safe work procedures
- Maintain and care for company vehicles, signage and equipment
- Escalate unsafe conditions and stop work where required until the site is made safe
Essential requirements
- Current driver's licence (essential) — you must be able to drive to and between sites
- Current traffic control accreditation valid for work in the ACT (see note below)
- White Card / Construction Induction Card
- Ability to work early starts, night shift and weekends as required
- Physically fit, the role involves manual handling, standing for extended periods and working outdoors in all weather
- Strong communication skills
- Reliable, punctual and safety focused
- Willingness to travel to sites across the Canberra region
Desirable
- Previous experience in a Team Leader or supervisory role
- Implementer / higher-level traffic management accreditation
- Experience with portable traffic control devices (PTCD) and portable traffic signals
- Experience working on council, government or major infrastructure projects
Pay: $37.54 – $67.57 per hour
