About the role
We are currently recruiting for two ongoing Director roles within our Regulation & Compliance division:
Energy Networks Regulation – lead a specialist team overseeing licensing, compliance and stakeholder engagement across NSW’s electricity networks, requiring experience in regulatory decision making, stakeholder engagement, and licensing or infrastructure regulation.
Energy Sustainability Schemes – lead a specialist team overseeing accredited providers’ compliance through audits and investigations, requiring expertise in compliance monitoring, assurance frameworks, and regulatory investigations and enforcement.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Regulation & Compliance, you will provide strategic leadership on regulatory matters, ensuring IPART’s approach is forward looking, risk-based and focused on delivering strong outcomes for the people of NSW, while minimising unnecessary regulatory burden.
You will engage with co‑regulators and policy makers to share insights, and provide expert advice to the Tribunal and its Committees to support robust, impartial decision making.
As a key member of the divisional leadership team, you will contribute to strategic direction, foster cross‑organisational collaboration, and ensure a coordinated, effective approach to regulation and compliance across IPART.
About you
You are an experienced senior leader with strong judgement and a focus on delivering outcomes in complex regulatory environments.
You bring:

Demonstrated experience in regulation and compliance, risk management, or a related discipline

The ability to apply systems thinking and navigate complex policy, technical and stakeholder issues

Strong leadership capability, including setting clear direction, prioritising work programs and developing high-performing teams

Highly developed communication and influencing skills, including the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and technical experts

An understanding of the role of an independent regulator and commitment to delivering public value for the people of NSW

Experience in the energy sector is desirable but not essential. We welcome applicants with a strong willingness to learn and a genuine interest in improving energy outcomes in NSW.
These are ongoing, full time Band 1 Public Service Senior Executive (PSSE) roles. Remuneration will be determined in line with this Band 1 range, considering relevant skills and experience.
