Remuneration: Salary $92,279.20 - $99,294.00 per annum (dependent on experience).
Salary Packaging: As a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) NAAFLS can offer up to $15,899 per annum of the salary, Tax-free as a fringe benefit (conditions apply).
Hours of work: Monday to Friday - 8.15am to 4.21pm with 30mins lunch break
Employment Type: Full-time ongoing position (subject to funding). As a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) NAAFLS can offer up to $15,899 per annum of the salary, Tax-free as a fringe benefit (conditions apply).
Superannuation: 12%
Leave Entitlement: 6 weeks per annum plus 17.5% annual leave loading
Reports To: Community Legal Education Manager
Probationary Period: 6 months
Personal/Carer's Leave: 15 days per annum.

Mandatory Employment Requirements: Obtain a working with children clearance (WWCC), Obtain a clear Criminal History Check, Possess a current 'C' Class NT Drivers Licence.
Conditions of Employment: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, National Employment Standards, Fair Work Act.
Special Measures: This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).

About NAAFLS

NAAFLS is a non-government Aboriginal Corporation providing legal advice, representation and community legal education to Aboriginal people living in Communities and small towns across the Top End of the NT. We provide advice and representation to victims of Domestic Violence, including Family Law clients and to victims who are the subject of Child Protection Applications or Orders. Other work includes Victims of Crime Compensation Claims and assistance and support with housing applications.

We service over 40 remote communities within the Top End region spanning from the Tiwi Islands down to Lajamanu, Wadeye across to Borroloola. We provide culturally responsive legal advice, assistance, representation, and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Top End communities who have experienced domestic, family, and sexual violence.

We offer the unique opportunity to work collaboratively alongside client support officers and case workers, which are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified roles, to ensure that our service is culturally safe and holistic.

This holistic and culturally appropriate model of service sets us apart, seeking practical community-based solutions to the most complex legal problems.

Our primary practice areas are family law, child protection, and domestic violence; though we may also intervene in coronial inquiries, parliamentary inquiries, and other administrative or criminal proceedings as required.

Role Overview

The Community Legal Education (CLE) Officer plays a vital role in supporting families, communities, and remote service providers by delivering culturally safe legal education and community engagement activities.

The role combines community outreach, education, advocacy, and relationship-building to empower community members with knowledge that helps them make informed decisions and access legal and support services. The CLE Officer will work closely with other members of the CLE team and wider NAAFLS teams. As part of the CLE team, the CLE Officer will work closely and collaboratively with communities, including local Elders, service providers, safehouses, and other stakeholders to develop and deliver culturally responsive legal education programs that reflect community needs and strengths.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Bicultural and Community Engagement Practice

Deliver culturally safe community legal education to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Build positive relationships with community members, Elders and stakeholders.
Work collaboratively with communities and colleagues to ensure education activities meet community needs.
Represent NAAFLS professionally in community settings.

Community Legal Education Delivery

Assist in the development, review and maintenance of community legal education resources and programs.
Prepare and deliver engaging education sessions to community members and service providers.
Assist the CLE Manager to develop and update PowerPoint presentations to support program delivery.
Adapt education sessions and resources to suit different audiences and learning needs.
Coordinate travel, venues and logistics for community outreach and education activities.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

Build and maintain relationships with community organisations, service providers and other stakeholders.
Promote NAAFLS services and referral pathways through community engagement activities.
Assist with coordinating workshops, community events and education sessions.
Coordinate workshops and logistics.

Systems, Compliance and Continuous Improvement

Collect and record program data and assist with monitoring and evaluation activities.
Maintain accurate records and prepare basic reports as required.
Use Microsoft Office applications and organisational systems to support education activities and administration.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with organisational policies, procedures and Work Health and Safety requirements.

Professional Development and Team Contribution

Participate in supervision, training and professional development opportunities.
Contribute positively to a respectful and collaborative team environment.
Share knowledge and ideas to support continuous improvement of the Community Legal Education program.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
Proven ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in a service delivery environment, including strong relationship building and advocacy skills and an ability to deliver education programs.
Experience in program or project coordination, diary and calendar management, logistics and stakeholder engagement.
Experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other office related software.
Understanding of adult learning principles and how these apply in an Aboriginal education context.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
Demonstrated capacity to manage sensitive information, maintain confidentiality and remain impartial.
Self-motivated and demonstrated ability of working independently and as an effective team member.
A flexible approach, with strong organisational and planning skills, including the ability to effectively manage time and workload, prioritise tasks, and meet changing circumstances, competing demands, interruptions and deadlines.
High level attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work with an electronic records management system and enter accurate and timely data and use a range of computer programs.
Availability to undertake overnight travel to remote communities, up to a week at a time on a regular basis.
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of confidentiality, mandatory reporting and the issues relating to family violence and child protection.
