Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Welder (First Class) to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly and repair of metal components and trailers using a range of welding techniques. The candidate will contribute directly to delivering durable, high-quality metalwork solutions that meet client specifications, safety requirements, and industry standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to determine materials, fabrication methods, and correct machine settings for each job.
- Perform MIG and ARC welding on steel, aluminium, and other metals to manufacture and repair chassis and related components.
- Fabricate and assemble steel components and sub-assemblies, ensuring accurate fit, alignment, and structural integrity.
- Manufacture custom steel parts and trailer frame components using a range of hand tools and fabrication machinery.
- Use precision measuring instruments to check dimensions, tolerances, and overall accuracy of completed work.
- Set up and operate cutting, grinding, drilling, pressing, and shaping equipment to produce components to specification.
- Form and bend steel sections and tubular components, applying heat where required to achieve correct profiles and load-bearing strength.
- Prepare, cut, and shape metal materials using flame cutting, mechanical tools, and workshop equipment.
- Align and securely join components through welding, bolting, and other approved fixing techniques.
- Inspect weld quality and carry out finishing work including grinding, polishing, and filing to achieve clean, compliant results.
- Identify mechanical faults and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on fabrication and welding equipment to support continuous production.
Qualifications:
- Certificate III or IV in Engineering (Fabrication Trade), Welding, Metal Fabrication, or a relevant trade qualification.
Other Skills and Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year experience as a Welder, Metal Fabricator, or in a similar role.
- Proven experience in welding and metal fabrication across stainless steel, aluminium,and steel.
- Competence in MIG, TIG, MMA and coded welding techniques.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, blueprints, and specifications.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication machinery safely and accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
