As customer demand continues to increase, the business requires a skilled and experienced Baker to support daily bakery production activities, maintain product consistency, and contribute to the continued growth and success of the business.
About the Role
The Baker is a key operational position responsible for preparing, baking, and presenting a wide variety of breads, pastries, cakes, biscuits, and specialty baked products in accordance with established recipes, production schedules, and quality standards.
The role requires strong technical baking skills, knowledge of artisan bread production and pastry preparation, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced commercial bakery environment. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining product quality, food safety compliance, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
The position aligns closely with the duties outlined under ANZSCO 351111 – Baker and is essential to supporting the bakery's daily production operations and ongoing business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Checking the cleanliness of equipment and bakery premises before production runs to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.
- Inspecting the quality of raw materials and ingredients before use.
- Measuring, weighing, and preparing ingredients according to recipes and production requirements.
- Kneading, maturing, cutting, moulding, mixing, and shaping dough for breads, rolls, pastries, and other baked products.
- Preparing pastry fillings, creams, custards, icings, and other bakery components.
- Monitoring proofing processes, oven temperatures, baking conditions, and product appearance to determine appropriate baking times.
- Coordinating the forming, loading, baking, unloading, de-panning, and cooling of bread, rolls, pastries, cakes, and other baked products.
- Producing a wide range of artisan breads, sourdough products, pastries, cakes, biscuits, and specialty bakery items.
- Glazing buns and pastries and decorating cakes and baked products using cream, icing, and other finishing techniques.
- Operating bakery machinery and equipment used for mixing, kneading, rolling, moulding, cutting, proofing, and baking products.
- Operating machines which roll and mould dough and cut biscuits and pastry products.
- Monitoring production schedules to ensure product availability and timely completion of bakery orders.
- Maintaining food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace health and safety standards at all times.
- Ensuring all products meet company quality standards and customer expectations.
- Managing stock rotation and assisting with inventory control of ingredients and bakery supplies.
- Receiving and storing ingredients in accordance with food safety requirements.
- Emptying, cleaning, greasing, and maintaining baking trays, tins, racks, utensils, and bakery equipment.
- Reporting equipment faults, maintenance requirements, quality concerns, or operational issues to management.
- Assisting with training and mentoring junior bakery staff where required.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives relating to bakery production, quality assurance, and operational efficiency.
Skills and Professional Competencies

Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate should possess:
- AQF Certificate III in Baking, including at least two years of on-the-job training; OR
- AQF Certificate IV in Baking or a related field (ANZSCO Skill Level 3); OR
- At least three years of relevant Baker experience may substitute for formal qualifications.
In addition, candidates should demonstrate:
- Experience in commercial bakery production environments.
- Experience producing artisan breads, pastries, cakes, biscuits, and specialty baked products.
- Knowledge of dough preparation, fermentation processes, pastry production, and baking techniques.
- Experience operating commercial bakery machinery and equipment.
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, HACCP, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to meet production deadlines while maintaining quality and consistency.

Work Conditions

- Salary: AUD $80,000 per annum plus superannuation.
- Work location: 166 Summer Street, Orange NSW 2800.
- Early morning, weekend, and public holiday work may be required in accordance with bakery production schedules.
- Compliance with all workplace health and safety, food safety, and operational procedures is required at all times.
Preference will be given to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents.
Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
