About the Role
We are looking for a friendly, engaging and sales-focused Section Waiter to join the front-of-house team at Colombo Social.
You will be responsible for confidently managing your own section, providing attentive and personalised service, and helping guests explore our menu through knowledgeable recommendations.
This role is about more than simply taking orders. You will create memorable experiences, build genuine connections with guests and actively contribute to the success of the restaurant.
Strong sales performance is an important part of the position. By recommending additional dishes, drinks and experiences that genuinely enhance the guest’s visit, you will help Colombo Social grow its social impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage an allocated section confidently and efficiently throughout service.
- Welcome guests warmly and create an engaging, inclusive dining experience.
- Develop strong knowledge of the food, beverage and wine menus.
- Explain Sri Lankan dishes, ingredients and flavours in an approachable and enthusiastic way.
- Make thoughtful food and beverage recommendations based on each guest’s preferences.
- Actively promote additional dishes, drinks, desserts and dining experiences.
- Communicate the Colombo Social and Plate It Forward story with authenticity and pride.
- Take orders accurately and ensure meals and beverages are delivered promptly.
- Monitor tables throughout the dining experience and anticipate guest needs.
- Work closely with the kitchen, bar, host and other floor team members.
- Process payments accurately and follow all cash-handling procedures.
- Maintain clean, organised and professionally presented tables and service areas.
- Respond positively and professionally to guest feedback.
- Support opening, closing and general restaurant duties as required.
- Follow responsible service of alcohol, food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
About You
You will be a natural people person who enjoys creating genuine connections with guests.
You will bring:
- Previous experience as a waiter or section waiter in a busy restaurant environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A friendly, confident and engaging service style.
- Strong sales instincts and the ability to make recommendations without being pushy.
- The ability to manage a section while remaining calm, organised and attentive.
- A genuine interest in food, wine and hospitality.
- A willingness to learn about Sri Lankan food and culture.
- Strong teamwork skills and a positive attitude.
- Reliability, punctuality and professional presentation.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- A current NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate.

Pay: $33.85 – $34.96 per hour
