About this opportunity
Reporting directly to the Design Manager, this role helps lead the VEC's design team within Design and Production. The role is responsible for upholding the VEC brand, design problem-solving, quality management and delivery of election materials including but not limited to; ballot material, instructional manuals, reports, statutory ads and compliant product standards. It plays a critical role in continually improving and delivering VEC election activities across Victoria.

The Event Strategy and Delivery (ESD) portfolio is responsible for planning and delivery of election operations for State Government, Local Government and fee-for service elections. Design and Production are responsible for the design and high-volume production of election materials.
A day in the life of a Lead Designer
You will be responsible for the design and delivery of precise, branded, production-ready election materials. You bring a passion for human-centred design, combining strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and deep knowledge of file setup, print production, and high-volume outputs to ensure all work meets strict standards and compliance requirements.
You thrive on creating templates and maintaining brand systems, delivering scalable processes that drive consistency, accuracy, and efficiency. Working closely with designers, stakeholders, and production teams, you deliver flawless outputs under the demands of high-pressure election cycles.
About you

Produce branded designs and precise finished artwork in a complex, fast-paced environment that meets accessibility and legislative standards within time-sensitive deadlines.

Implement human‑centred design principles to solve complex problems using data, insights and proven best‑practice frameworks to deliver clear, practical, and effective design solutions.

Expertly create and develop system-based templates in InDesign, Illustrator and internal systems for critical content heavy material generation.

Proactively partner with stakeholders, service partners, and the design team to coordinate delivery and uphold clear processes, high standards, and consistent quality.

Highly organised, maintaining clear and accurate file structures that enable efficient artwork creation and reliable outputs—even as priorities shift quickly.
