Introduction:
Centacare North Queensland is seeking a Family Intervention Worker to join our Family Intervention Service, supporting families engaged in the Child Protection system to strengthen relationships, build resilience, and create safe, stable home environments.
This is a part-time, fixed-term opportunity ideal for someone who is passionate about early intervention, family preservation, and working alongside families in a practical, hands-on way.
This role is to commence from June 2026, to 29th June 2027.

About the Service
The Family Intervention Service provides intensive, in-home support to families involved with Child Protection, helping to reduce risk, support reunification, and strengthen family functioning through practical, evidence-based interventions.
About the Role
As a Family Intervention Worker, you’ll work directly with families through in-home and outreach support, delivering trauma-informed, strengths-based interventions that improve parenting capacity and child safety outcomes.
You will:
Provide intensive, practical family support and case management
Build strong, professional relationships with families while maintaining clear boundaries
Develop and implement individualised intervention plans
Support families through parenting strategies, modelling, and skill-building
Facilitate supervised contact between parents and children where required
Work closely with Child Safety and other stakeholders to support case goals
Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to ongoing case reviews
This role involves regular outreach and travel, working in real-life environments where your impact is immediate and meaningful.
Skills and Experiences:
What You’ll Bring
A relevant qualification in Social Work, Human Services or similar
Experience (or strong capability) in working with families in complex or high-risk situations
Understanding of trauma-informed practice and child development
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to undertake risk assessments and manage competing priorities
Cultural capability, including the ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
Current Driver Licence
Ability to obtain and maintain a Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
