Tell me about this role:
The Cyberspace Operations Systems Program Office (COSPO) is responsible for acquiring, integrating, and sustaining advanced information warfare capabilities that ensure the ADF maintains a technological edge in a rapidly evolving digital battlespace.
As the Software Officer you will play a pivotal role in this mission by overseeing the lifecycle management of software assets across all COSPO product lines. This includes the procurement, licensing, compliance, support, and disposal of software products and services.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing software asset management (SAM) strategies that support operational readiness, reduce risk, and optimise software investments.
By maintaining robust software asset controls and ensuring compliance with licensing agreements and regulatory requirements, you will contribute directly to the integrity, security, and efficiency of COSPO’s information warfare capabilities.
The role also supports innovation and agility by enabling the timely integration of new technologies and systems into the ADF’s operational environment.
What will I be doing day to day?
- Develop and implement software asset management (SAM) strategies aligned with COSPO’s objectives
- Lead the planning, deployment, and tracking of software usage to ensure compliance with licensing agreements
- Ensure software procurement, licensing, and maintenance activities comply with Defence policies and relevant legislation
- Analyse software licensing data and interpret End User License Agreements (EULAs) to ensure compliance and optimise value
- Develop, maintain, and enhance the SAM tool to support accurate tracking and reporting
- Monitor and manage software asset budgets and resource allocations
What skills do I need?
- Active NV1 or higher security clearance
- Software Licensing/Asset management
- Employment of enterprise licensing agreements
- Experience with asset management tools
- Management of assets (EOL, support and maintenance)
- Experience using CMDBs to manage software
- Software vendor management and negotiation
- Australian Government and / or Defence experience.
- Demonstrated ability in managing projects, risks and issues, budgets and schedules
