Primary objective
As a member of the school leadership team, provide educational leadership across Preschool to Year 12 by leading curriculum,
teaching, learning, and school improvement initiatives that improve student achievement, engagement, attendance, and pathways.
Context statement
Jabiru Area School is a Preschool to Year 12 school located in Kakadu National Park, providing education for approximately 180
students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, including a significant proportion of Aboriginal and EAL/D learners. As a
remote area school, Jabiru Area School works in partnership with families, community organisations, industry, and government
agencies to improve educational outcomes, strengthen attendance and engagement, and create pathways to further education,
training, and employment. The Assistant Principal is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for leading instructional
improvement, curriculum implementation, teacher development, and school operations across Preschool to Year 12. In 2026, the
role will focus on embedding consistent evidence-informed teaching practices in literacy and numeracy, strengthening teacher
capability through coaching and professional learning, supporting the effective use of student data to drive improvement, and
ensuring the successful implementation of the Annual School Improvement Plan to improve student achievement, attendance,
engagement, and post-school pathways.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the implementation and evaluation of curriculum, assessment, and evidence-based teaching practices across Preschool
to Year 12.
2. Develop staff capability through coaching, mentoring, professional learning, and performance development processes.
3. Use student achievement, attendance, engagement, and wellbeing data to inform planning, intervention, and school
improvement.
4. Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies, procedures, strategic plans, and operational priorities.
5. Undertake an appropriate teaching load and model high-quality teaching practice aligned with the Jabiru Area School
Instructional Model.

Essential
1. Demonstrated leadership in improving teaching and learning through the implementation and evaluation of curriculum,
assessment, and evidence-based instructional practices.
2. Demonstrated success in coaching, mentoring, and developing teacher capability through professional learning, feedback, and
performance development processes.
3. Demonstrated ability to analyse and use student achievement, attendance, engagement, and wellbeing data to inform strategic
planning and school improvement.
4. Demonstrated success in leading and implementing school improvement initiatives that improve student outcomes and
organisational effectiveness.
5. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead, collaborate, and build productive relationships
with staff, students, families, community organisations, and external agencies.
Desirable
1. Experience working in a Preschool to Year 12 setting.
2. Experience leading curriculum implementation, moderation, and reporting processes.
3. Experience working in remote Aboriginal communities and supporting EAL/D learners.
4. Experience leading induction, coaching, or professional learning programs.
