FOOD SAFETY / ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT/ PUBLIC HEALTH CONTROL

- Food safety regulation and compliance,
- Assessment of Environmental Reports and Development Applications relating to air, noise, water, hazards, asbestos and land contamination,
- Public Health regulation including water quality testing, cooling tower regulation, skin penetration inspections,
- Septic tanks/ sewer overflow inspections and regulation,
- Regulation and enforcement under the Protection and Environment Operations Act, particularly relating to residential, commercial and industrial matters,
- Regulation and enforcement under the Local Government Act, particularly relating to residential matters.
Fairfield City Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from motivated and skilled professionals to join our dedicated team as an Environmental Health Officer or Senior Environmental Health Officer undertaking any or all of the above tasks. In these roles, you will contribute to a diverse and meaningful portfolio of regulatory and advisory work that supports community well-being, environmental sustainability and responsible development across the city.
More detail about what you could be doing, depending on your interests and qualifications includes the following.
Environmental Management
- Assessing a range of development applications, from small-scale to complex projects
- Investigating pollution incidents (air, noise, water, asbestos, hazards, land contamination, waste) in residential, commercial and industrial settings
- Auditing industrial businesses for compliance
Food Safety
- Inspecting and regulating retail food premises, home-based businesses, and temporary events
- Investigating complaints
- Assessing new business proposals and food premises development applications
Public Health and Disease Management
- Regulating skin penetration businesses such as beauty salon, tattooists, etc
- Conducting complaint investigations
- Monitoring swimming pool water quality
- Managing cooling tower systems
- Assessing new developments
Septic Systems
- Assessing applications for new septic installations and undertaking installation inspections
- Investigating and regulating existing systems and related complaints
About You
To be considered, you must be eligible for appointment under:
- NSW Protection of the Environment Operations Act
- NSW Food Act
- NSW Public Health Act
- NSW Local Government Act
You bring relevant experience in one or more of the areas above, along with a strong commitment to public health, environmental protection, and community service. Additional training will also be considered and provided to those wishing to advance their existing skills.
